The versatility of track lighting
By Floris / February 19, 2024
There are many different types of rail systems. And because it is becoming more and more popular, more and more variants are arriving. Such as different sizes, colors and applications. At lampenlicht we have a few types of rail in our range.
Let's take a look at why track lighting has become so popular for both home and business settings.
Versatility and compatibility
A great advantage of track lighting is that it works well with other types of lighting you already have, such as pendant lights or ceiling lights. This makes it easy to create a varied and balanced lighting setup that suits your style and needs. Basically, almost any lamp can be hung on a track system.
In most cases, you see mostly spotlights or simple pendant lights hanging from the rails. But using an adapter , you can basically hang any hanglamp on the rail. Simply cut the wire from your hanglamp and connect it to the adapter, which you then click into the rail. And voila, you now have your hanglamp paired with the rail. Please note that rails have a maximum weight of about 5 kilos (depending on the type of ceiling you have). So make sure you carefully consider the weight of your hanglamp before connecting it to the track.
Number of spotlights and distance
When planning a track lighting system, a common question is how many spotlights to place on a rail and how far apart they should be. Generally, as many spotlights can be placed on a rail as will fit on it, but it is recommended to keep a distance of about 60-80 inches between each spotlight. This distance can vary depending on the size of the room and how much lighting you need.
If you want to properly light a room, we recommend hanging at least one spotlight per square meter. This will allow you to properly light your workspace or kitchen, for example. The handy thing about rails is that you can easily add more or less light to your rails by simply adding or removing individual spots from the rails.
Various shapes and installation options
Track lighting offers a range of options when it comes to both the shape of the track and its installation. Different fittings allow you to choose from a variety of shapes, such as square, rectangular, U-shaped or L-shaped, allowing you to find the perfect style to suit your space.
In addition, track lighting is versatile when it comes to installation options. In addition to traditional ceiling mounting, track lighting can also be installed in rooms with sloped ceilings, making it suitable for all kinds of spaces. Some people even choose to mount the tracks on the wall, making the possibilities truly endless.
In addition, track lighting offers flexibility in the direction of light. With tilt and swivel rail spots, you can easily adjust lighting to specific areas or objects in the room. Whether you want to illuminate an artwork on the wall or highlight certain architectural details, track lighting allows you to create the right atmosphere simply by adjusting the direction of the spotlights. This combination of various shapes, installation options and directional flexibility makes track lighting an ideal choice for illuminating any space in a stylish and functional way.
