What is indirect lighting?
Indirect lighting is good for your eyes. This light never shines directly into your eyes but is spread through the room via the walls or ceiling. The surroundings reflect the light, for instance via table lights or up-and downlights. The light is soft, without too much contrast between light and shadow. To obtain the same amount of light with indirect lighting as with direct lighting, you need more and stronger light bulbs. In addition, indirect light works best with light, smooth walls and ceilings. So think carefully about the right places to hang or place your indirect lighting.
Indirect lighting is mainly used to add more atmosphere to a room. It also helps you to stay focused throughout the day. There's a reason why it is often used in offices and schools. Actually, the combination of direct and indirect light is ideal for both an atmospheric and functional interior. You need direct light in the kitchen, for example, where you can use a strong beam of light, or in the form of reading lights in order to read a good book.
