A lamp socket is also called a lamp holder. It is the connection between the lamp (fixture) and the light source, i.e. the part where you turn the light source into the lamp. We have listed the 8 most common lamp sockets for you. Types beginning with the letter E are rotary sockets and types beginning with GU are plug-in socket.
E27
The large, most common rotary socket. The thread / diameter is 27 mm thick and suitable for 230V, i.e. most LED lamps.
E14
The small rotary socket. The thread / diameter is 14 mm thick, and thus suitable for the somewhat smaller LED lamps. Like the E27 lamp socket, it is suitable for 230V. You often see this lamp socket in ambient lighting such as table lamps.
G9
The G9 lamp socket is a plug-in socket with two loops with 9 mm spacing between them. This lamp socket is often found in smaller wall or ceiling lamps.
GU10
This plug-in socket has a bayonet fitting: two pins with 10 mm spacing between them. Light sources with this lamp socket are mainly used for spotlights and are suitable for 230V. The pins are inserted into the holes of the spotlight and the light source is fixed in place with a quarter turn.
GU5.3
These lamp sockets have two small metal pins with 5.3 mm spacing between them that conduct the current. They are also called bipin-foot or plug-in-foot sockets. Light sources with this lamp socket are mainly used in bathrooms, kitchens or outdoors because they are suitable for 12V, which is a safe voltage for wet areas. Please note that you always need a transformer for a 12V light source.
GX53
This plug-in socket has a bayonet fitting with pins spaced 53 mm apart. The lamp is fixed by pressing the light source into the fixture and then turning it a quarter turn. The GX53 lamp socket is mainly used for ceiling lamps.
G53
Many halogen spotlights use a G53 lamp socket. Nowadays, G53 LED spotlights are also available. It is a round lamp socket with pins at the bottom. Only the AR111 light source has a G53 lamp socket. The AR111 light source has a diameter of 111 mm and is mainly used in large surface-mounted and recessed spotlights on 12V. Please note that you always need a transformer for a 12V light source. The light source is fixed by screws or clamps.
Whether a fixture comes with a light source is always indicated in the specifications. When the lamp is delivered without a light source, it's wise to immediately order the right number of light sources. In the specifications, you'll find which light source(s) you need. Make sure that the wattage of the fixture matches the light source.
To complete your lighting, you often have to choose the ideal light bulb yourself. It is important to pay attention to the following elements when ordering your suitable light source:

The number of light points on a lamp indicates how many separate light sources the lamp contains. This directly affects the amount of light and the light distribution in a room.

When choosing a lamp, it is important to consider the number of light points to ensure sufficient light for the room and application.
The number of volts for a light represents the required supply voltage. The standard power supplied to the home is 220/230 volts. Almost all lights in our range can be connected to your mains power. There are a few exceptions, however (12 volts). For each product, the voltage is given in the specifications, under ""light source"". These lights require a transformer to convert the current from 220/230 volts to 12 volts. You cannot simply connect these lights to your mains without a transformer, as this will destroy the light source or fixture.
